Do it yourself ingenuity can transform any Tuff Shed building. This custom pool house in Jacksonville, AR is a great example of hard work and creativity from a customer. A 16x20 two-story Sundance Series TR-1600 became the backbone for a backyard, beach-themed getaway. Built on a cinder block foundation with French double doors and window upgrades, this pool house is the ultimate escape. After the building was installed the customer and his family finished the interior, front porch, stucco, and awning. The final result is a relaxing retreat right in their backyard.

Carl Spreads The Word
Carl Joerschke has only owned his shed for a year but that’s been plenty of time for him to become a Tuff Shed enthusiast. His shed has become known as Carl’s Workshop, a 20x12 Sundance Series TB-800 with an 8x12 loft and double doors. He uses the building for woodworking and tinkering in his free time. With so much time spent in his workshop, Carl decided to install insulation and wood paneling on the interior walls as well as run electricity to the building.
Since purchasing his workshop, he has convinced several neighbors to get Tuff Shed buildings of their own. “As far as I’m concerned, I’ve looked at a lot of other sheds and I think Tuff Shed is the best.” We couldn’t agree more, Carl.
Need an extra large storage space?
Tuff Shed has your solution! During a trip to the Home Depot (HD) for a backup generator, Allen Meyer mentioned to an HD Sales Associate that he was in search of an extra shed or garage. He was put into contact with Tuff Shed Area Sales Manager Sonny Kollmorgan. Later that day the two met and discussed Allen’s storage needs. After a bit of discussion and planning, Allen decided on a 30x40 Sundance Series garage. He upgraded the garage’s wall height to 10ft, added 2x6 studs, and raised the roof pitch to 12x12 with attic trusses. In addition, the garage has an 8x16 front porch, carriage garage doors, two-tone wainscoting exterior paint, and a half loft inside with a set of stairs.
Allen plans to use half of his new Tuff Shed garage for storing farming equipment, tractors, 4-wheelers, and pickups. The other half of the garage will be insulated for a workspace. The insulated section will also be home to a golf-simulator to keep his game strong during the winter. Meyer is finalizing the wiring for the electrical work in his workshop and will begin insulating when he’s finished.
His experience with Tuff Shed has been worry-free. “They came on a Tuesday and they were done on a Tuesday. That’s not my typical experience with contractors. I’m very happy with the results.”

A Perfect She Shed Getaway (Building of the Month)
Looking for a little extra space to
work, craft, or relax? We suggest a Tuff Shed building! Turn your extra yard space into a
bonus room with a customized solution. Like blogger Katrina Sullivan found,
Tuff Shed can help you to create a space all your own, whether a guesthouse, a
private work space, or a storage filled workshop. “I love the idea of having a
dedicated work space just for myself, one of the many reasons why I love the
she shed concept,” says Katrina.
After considering zoning codes and workspace
needs, Katrina chose a Tuff Shed TR-700 and a nine light door, framed by two
24x36 windows on either side. To accommodate for the hours she planned to spend
in her Tuff Shed, crafting and writing, Katrina insulated the walls and ceiling
and added drywall and vinyl flooring tiles. In addition, she ran electricity to
her she shed and installed air conditioning and heating units.
Steps for a Worry-Free Fall Vacation
Remember the good old days, when your biggest worry was what kind of candy you’d get trick or treating? At Tuff Shed, we think vacations should bring out your inner child, not be taken up with worries about whether or not you closed the garage door when you left. Don’t let worries about the safety of your home take control of your vacation. Keep your home (and Tuff Shed building) in shape while you’re gone with this checklist:
- Bills, Mail, Newspaper- Don’t let mail pile up while you’re on vacation. Put a hold on your newspaper and mail or enlist a neighbor to pick up your mail. Be sure to check due dates on bills and pay them early if the due date falls during your vacation.
- Lawn Care- Falling leaves can lead to a messy yard, especially when you’re not around to rake. Arrange to have your lawn raked and mowed while you’re away. Turn off your sprinkler system as well, if you haven’t already for the season.
- Clean out food in fridge- No one likes to come back to a kitchen full of spoiled food. Check your refrigerator and counters for perishable foods and clean them out before you leave.
- Electronics- Stop idle appliances from racking up your energy bill. Before leaving the house take the time to unplug unused appliances like your coffee maker, toaster, lamps, etc. to stop wasted energy costs.
- Water- Turn off water mains to avoid burst pipes and costly messes. If you’re concerned about turning off your water have a neighbor or family member check in during your trip to make sure your home is in order.
- Heating and Cooling- Adjust your thermostat to level that maintains a moderate temperature without needlessly cooling or heating an empty home. Fall weather is typically moderate enough to keep the temperature in your home comfortable.
- Vehicles- If possible, park vehicles inside your
garage during the trip. If your car is parked on the street or in the driveway,
be sure to remove all electronics and valuables as well as the garage door
opener stored inside.
- Timers and Blinds- Set a timer for a few lights in your home to switch on and off as well as keeping blinds slightly open, but not enough to invite intruders to take a look. Avoid a closed up dark home, as it can be a signal to burglars that the owner isn’t home.

BUILDING OF THE MONTH
This is a custom 8x16 Sundance Lean-To out of Boise, Idaho. This customer needed to match the cedar siding, metal roof, 9-lite door upgrade and custom roof line of his garage. He also needed the building to withstand a 150 pound mountain snow load, and provide enough space to work on (and store) his bikes and snow sports equipment. He nailed it with this custom Sundance Lean-to.
